21st Century – The era of automation, an era which aims to automate things around us. The technical advancements around us promises to make our lives easier. Not only some high processing cell phones or high speed internet, technology has advanced to such an extent that any thing you see around you can be made as smart as a human brain. The term used to represent the field of providing human intelligence to non-living things with the power of internet or connectivity is known as IoT or Internet of Things. And such non-living things are known as smart devices.
Out of many smart technologies evolving, smart homes are another great advancement of technology in this time. Smart home technology, also known as home automation or domotics, is an automation system designed for a home. A home automation system will control lighting, climate, entertainment systems, and appliances. It may also include home security such as access control and alarm systems. When connected with the Internet, home devices act as important constituent to IoT.
Smart homes consist of connected controlled devices to a central hubway or “gateway”. The control of the system is performed using web interface or application on your handheld devices like mobile phones, or desktops or wall mounted tablets. Using the power of internet, the devices can be even controlled off-site using the hosted server, from anywhere around the world who has access to it. The simplest example of smart home can be taken to be the android controlled smart door lock system. The door can be opened from a short distance using local area networks such as Bluetooth or Hotspot or from anywhere globally using the internet connectivity. Other examples of smart homes can be temperature controlled air conditioner, voice controlled smart lightning system, web controlled smart appliances with billing feature.
Using the power of IoT with other hot tech features like AI (Artificial Intelligence), homes can be made smarter, not just smart.
